ISIL will never be defeated. None of these groups ever will be. Sure, you might temporarily eject them from a certain area but they will still be in other places and can easily come back to where they were ousted from.

Unfortunately your 100% correct Nemo, those groups are all over the Mid east and beyond. Now we see Iraq's fighting among themselves. For every hundred killed, 100 are recruited, and they are growing. Same goes for training, yes you can train soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan, but this will be short lived. These people do not live as we do, we will never succeed in changing their way of life, or their way of thinking permanently. We are training and selling arms to Countries that may use that training and equipment against the West in the future. I blame all this on Governments. Sometimes it's best to clean your own back yard before forcing others to clean theirs. This situation with ISIS is not getting better, they are getting stronger, they are spreading groups around the world, and smarter in their fight against the West. You got 4 US servicemen killed in Africa a couple of Weeks ago. Those servicemen did not have air power cover because the Country forbids it. So this tells me that those responsible for sending those servicemen into that Country knowing that they would have no air support, are responsible for their deaths. Those responsible for sending those servicemen should have never allowed the Country to dictate the air support authority in the first place. It should have halted any servicemen from any Country from entering that Country. This is just plain common sense, you need to look after the well being of your troops, first, period. JMO
Canadian military helicopters still active in Iraq
The battle for the northern Iraqi city of Mosul and an offensive in the Hawija pocket further south may have concluded in the summer and fall of 2017, but the whirl of Canadian helicopters continues to resound over the region.
