Here is the link to the Parliamentary Budget Officer’s report released today on the cost differential between three regimes of Veterans’ benefits. We have some questions on the report and will be back to you once we have answers.

Canada's Veterans Ombudsman March 8, 2019

This year’s #InternationalWomensDay is about removing barriers for women and creating opportunities to #InnovateForChange. We’d like to underline the incredible work done by women in the CAF and their vital role played in defending and representing Canada at home and abroad. Thank you to the women serving today, and our Veterans who continue to serve in spirit – we salute you.

Canada's Veterans Ombudsman - April 9, 2019

Today is the 102nd anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge. On this day, we remember the 3000+ Canadian soldiers who lost their lives in the battle and all soldiers who contributed to this historic victory. This video from the Vimy Foundation’s and National Film Board’s First World War in Colour project provides a compelling view of life on the frontlines. A good reminder that the sacrifices made by our soldiers and their families over a hundred years ago still shape our country today.

‪Thanks to the new Veterans Ombudsman Craig Dalton for meeting with me today in Ottawa to discuss ideas on how to help our Veterans. Really liked the frankness of our discussion.

Veterans Ombudsman Craig Dalton, along with Deputy Ombudsman Sharon Squire, appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Government Operations and Estimates. The topic was priority hiring for Veterans within the Public Service. Here is a link to the speech. http://ombudsman-veterans.gc.ca/eng/media/speeches/post/27

Thank you to the Legion Magazine for supporting our position on VAC’s $165 million accounting error that shortchanged thousands of Veterans receiving a disability pension. The OVO has urged VAC to move as quickly as possible to compensate veterans and their families who were underpaid on disability pension payments. https://legionmagazine.com/en/2019/05/fix-it-and-fast/

Just so everyone is clear here although it is true the Ombudsman's office under the direction of former Ombudsman Guy Parent brought the (accounting error) to light via Veterans Affairs Canada, it was a Veteran who discovered the error, and of course if he would have approached Veterans Affairs with it, it would have been ignored, so he brought it forward to the Ombudsman's office to initiate or bring to light the error to Veterans Affairs. The error which I've already posted on is just another bit of proof of the ignorance, and incompetence of our government in particular Natynczyk who btw gets paid big bucks to ensure these things don't happen. Please don't look at all these issues as simple mistakes, because they are not just simple mistakes, they are plain and simple ignorant people who put themselves before the welfare of those who they are suppose to support and help. That's what they get paid for, so no mistake with these people, they hold full responsibility for every issue caused by them to disabled Veterans in this Country. Disabled Veterans in this Country are being down-scaled in terms of benefits they apply for in this Country. As time moves forward the benefits continue to be down-scaled. We now have an insurance system for disabled Veterans as opposed to a sacrifice for service system. This is as clear as clear can be.

What's our new Ombudsman going to do about that? Nothing!

Canada's Veterans Ombudsman - May 16, 2019

“Thank you to all Veterans, RCMP, and partners that met & shared their experiences with me during @VeteransOmbudsman meetings this week in Victoria and Edmonton. What I heard from you is the impact of service life is far reaching for all family members, that we need to plan now for the future of long-term care, and providers need better awareness around the impact quality of service has on your needs. I look forward to continuing the discussion across the country in the months to come.”
