bosn,

I can tell you right now the lifelong pension announcement will be worth nothing.

As far as the election goes, yes Veterans can vote against the Liberals, but the Liberals will always have the Legion on their side. How many angry Veterans today, will still be angry come election time?

I think the problem lies with the government period, regardless who is in power.

The Veterans file is very complicated to politicians, it is not something you can learn in depth in a short period of time.
So when any Canadian government is formed, promises are made, money is put aside, and those who end up winning the election have only one place to go in terms of the Veterans file, the bureaucrats. The bureaucrats run the Veterans file, why is this? As stated above no politician knows the file as good as those bureaucrats. The bureaucrats don't care what party is in power, they do the same exact thing regardless who is running the Country. The Bureaucrats come from all party stripes and have lots of experience on the Veterans file. They, the bureaucrats write up legislation to be signed off by the Minister who then passes it as a bill through the HOC. So in short, the bureaucrats are the ones who run the Veterans file. The bureaucrats don't want disabled Veterans to be so well off in their secured benefits where such a situation would put the future security of the bureaucrats themselves, in jeopardy. The old pension act did just that, it gave lifelong security to the disabled Veterans. Therefore the bureaucrats gave birth to the New Veterans Charter. Now if we look at the New Veterans Charter today, and look at the workload that is going on with the bureaucrats, it will show that the tactics or objectives used by the bureaucrats to secure their own security is working just find. They have the NVC just where they want it, in complete chaos. As I said many times before, yes it is the Minister of Veterans Affairs who is in charge of the Veterans file, but it is the bureaucrats who run the Veterans file, and the Minister of Veterans Affairs allows the bureaucrats to run the Veterans file. Why does the Minister of Veterans Affairs allow this to happen, or continue? As stated above politicians do not know or understand the Veterans file in depth, therefore they rely on the bureaucrats to run the file for them. What happens when a group submits suggestions to the Minister of Veterans Affairs? The Minister accepts it, brings it to the bureaucrats, the bureaucrats sits on it for a bit, then comes back to the Minister with explanations as to why this or these suggestions cannot be done. And the bureaucrats are experts in this area, they can write legislation making it look real good at the first read, but it is never as good as they make believe, it is a system geared towards making the government look good by giving the perception that what is being done is solid positive improvements. So this makes the Minister useless for Veterans. The bureaucrats also did good in dividing Veterans themselves by the introduction of the NVC. These bureaucrats are real good at what they do, they have been degrading disabled Veterans ever since the enacting of the NVC. So what does this all tell you? It tells you that our government does not care for it's disabled Veterans, it tells you that negotiating with them only feeds their PR machine and in reality, your not really negotiating with the government, your negotiating with the bureaucrats, a lost, lost.

When the announcement comes out for the lifelong pension, come back to this particular post, I will bet you that if you look hard at the pension, you will see that it is not worth much, and what I wrote here will coincide with that failed pension.
