Re: Deputy minister scales back military ceremony after quarrel over $100,000-plus price tag
So let me get this straight. On the one hand it's been reported that there was a shortage of sleeping bags for forces personnel, and whereas some had to purchase their own combat boots, now it has been reported that military brass planned to spend $107,000 on a change of command ceremony.
Where's the opposition party? Where's the auditor general? Where's the CANADIAN TAXPAYERS FEDERATION?
All tax payers of this Country should be furious over this!

The poor General's, they must have been heartbroken. I hope someone created a safe space for them to process the trauma.

You could purchase quite a few rucksacks, and sleeping bags with $107,000

Kudos to DND Deputy Minister Jody Thomas for her refusal to approve the generals’ plan to spend more than $100,000 on a ceremony to mark the transfer of leadership in the armed forces.
Such demonstrations of backbone and principle, when confronted with the bureaucracy’s wasteful approach to budget depletion, are sorely lacking in the civil service. However, even $24,000 for a ceremony is unnecessarily excessive. It sounds like more of a party.
Given the challenges that some veterans with PTSD, et cetera face in getting the supports and help they need, I hope at least they were invited to share in the refreshments.
