MP Leona Alleslev 's Current Cross-over from Liberals to Conservatives
Putting aside political pressures and party labels, MP Leona Alleslev's publicly pronounced purpose for crossing the floor, proved to be a deep disappointment to me, because, just as I will never forget that I am a Canadian Veteran, she seems to have fast forgotten that she, too, bears that brand.
In Alleslev's speech in the Commons, she stressed her main issues of concern for our country and its citizens, were " foreign policy, trade, defence, and the economy". All well and good, but at no point did this former RCAF Officer, like so many of her political counterparts and clones on both sides of the aisle, acknowledge or recognize the existence of the plentitude of problems pervasive in the community of Canada's Veterans, as being worthy of mention, let alone attention and solution, albeit this occasion would have provided a bully pulpit for her to do so.
Yet again, she joins the rank ranks of those other MPs who, while de facto Veterans, rapidly rid themselves of that characterization and consequent empathy to our situation, once they don the mufti of the body politic, and prefer to pretend that they are not particularly identified or allied with us or our many critical concerns. Alas, I would have wished she was better than that, but.....
I do not doubt, however, that Ms Alleslev, whether Whig or Tory, come Remembrance Day, will be among the first in line among the Veterans at a Cenotaph, to place a wreath , all wreathed in smiles for that prized photo-op.
