HMCS Toronto headed to Belfast for repairs after electrical problems cause loss of power

HMCS Toronto, which is taking part in NATO operations, has run into some more problems. The frigate was conducting operations at sea off the coast of the United Kingdom when the ship experienced an electrical issue causing a loss of power, Canadian Forces spokesman Maj. Mark Gough said Tuesday. “The ship’s technicians worked continuously on this matter to bring the electrical systems back on line,” added Gough. “The ship has been able to restore electrical power which allows them to communicate and navigate safely. At no time was the ship in danger.”

Gough said the frigate is currently underway and preceding to Belfast to conduct further repairs.

On Oct. 26 a fire broke out on board HMCS Halifax but the crew was able to put out the blaze. The Canadian Forces said there was a minor fire in the starboard gas turbine engine enclosure in the forward engine room. Upon discovery of the fire, the crew immediately engaged the fire suppression system and the fire was extinguished.
There were no injuries.
