Re: Carbon Tax
If the Parlimentary Budget Officers has determined that Canadians will get more of a Carbon Rebate than what he/she will pay in Carbon Tax then WTF is the Government doing...wasting monies by paying out rebates.
Keep your Carbon Rebate. Keep your Carbon Tax and you will have automatically saved ALL Canadians money.

Re: Carbon Tax
Actually Newf the GoC will be collecting 5% on increased gas, home heating, electricity, food etc. towards the carbon tax or whatever it's called this week.
It's the GST that they are collecting and it's one of the "little" details the PBO left out of his report that we will get more back then what we spend.
In the provinces that Ottawa is forcing the Carbon Tax they will get roughly $580 Million from the GST charge of 5%.
You know it's a bad tax idea when provinces are fighting the federal gov't in court. The provincial tax rate will go to provincial coffers on all items deemed carbon emitting. So if the province doesn't want the extra tax money then IMO that is a sure sign that a carbon tax is only going to grow and grow and we will pay and pay.

Re: Carbon Tax
JAFO, thank for that bit of info. Just the thought of paying more tax on gas, home heating etc, etc just makes me angry. We pay so many taxes on so many consumer goods here in Canada with some Provinces having higher taxes than others.
I have family in Newfoundland who already pay high costs for consumers goods (e.g. fuel and groceries) brought across on the Marine Atlantic Ferry by tractor trailers. When the dust settles on this carbon tax, I cannot imagine how the costs of these items will increase by the businesses involved in shipping these consumer goods to the Rock. Times are going to be harder and more expensive for people living in isolated areas not only in Newfoundland but right across Canada.
I am sure the GOC could have come up with something better and more focused on the bigger industrial polluters than your average joe blow, Canadian.

Re: Carbon Tax
I don't think you'll find to many people in this Country against the fight against climate change. What you will find though is people against the government taken funds out of the pockets of Canadians to pay for it. For one thing the government could start by setting the example of taken cuts from their own pockets, and to reduce waste, and put a lid on wasteful spending. Stop taken trips on the taxpayers dime. This is where the funds should come from to fight climate change. This government is looking to get ousted out of office! Anyone who would legislate this carbon tax in an election year is clearly looking to get ousted from office. Why this does not surprise me given the IQ of our Prime Minister. God help us all if this Idiot gets back in! How much more can Canada take of embarrassment that comes from our so called leader? Posing in a Photo op in Ottawa for the floods, and saying that he is only there for fifteen minutes is a disgrace! If he wants to help pick up a shovel and put in a days work! No wonder he got called out! What an Idiot!

Re: Carbon Tax
Trooper you are right on in your comments. Implementing the Carbon Tax in an election year is an ass hat of an idea if your trying to get elected.
While I certainly support efforts to reduce climate change the GOC really needs to focus on the bigger companies, bigger businesses and bigger polluters rather than individual Canadians who will bear the brunt of this tax. For example; Taxing the airline industries.
Lets hope a new government will get rid of this tax.
