POLICE SAY PERP TRIED TO RETURN DOG TOYS TAKEN RIGHT OFF STORE SHELVES
By Brett Glover ... Published: Feb 12th, 2020
Barrie Police are looking for a guy accused of pulling a fast one with a sob story at a south end pet shop.
Around noon on Tuesday, the suspect is accused of heading into Ren’s Pets at Park Place, and heading to the dog toy section. There, police say he took three items off the shelves and went to the cash register to “return” the unpurchased merchandise. “In order to gain favour from the cashier,” reads a police media release, “he claimed to be an active member of the Canadian Armed Forces and also provided a story that his dog had recently died which accounted for the reason that he did not have a receipt.”
Police say the suspect had unkempt, curly salt-and-pepper hair that would not be acceptable for an active member of the military.
Anyone with information on this fraud is asked to contact Constable Miller of the Barrie Police Service at 705-725-7025, ext. 2716, via email at jmiller@barriepolice.ca , or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). You can leave an anonymous tip online at www.p3tips.com.
