At the stroke of noon on February 15, 1965, Canada’s red and white maple leaf flag was raised for the very first time on Parliament Hill. On the same day in 1996, National Flag of Canada Day was declared.On February 15, let’s celebrate the #CanadianFlag in communities across the country!

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) — A number of people have braved the wet weather to watch the Canadian flag be raised at Queen Elizabeth Park, in honour of National Flag of Canada Day.
The event celebrates the first time the national flag was raised on Parliament Hill in 1965 on February 15.
National Flag of Canada Day is a relatively new holiday itself only being observed since 1996.
However, the celebration did not go as planned as protesters crashed the event, holding Canadian flags reading ‘Oh Canada, our home is Native Land’ in solidarity with First Nations people
