Gwen MacLean, veteran, dietician dies at 102

Gwen MacLean, a Second World War veteran and wife of former P.E.I. Premier Angus MacLean, has died. She was 102.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Premier Dennis King described MacLean as an advocate for “leading a healthy and active lifestyle”.

MacLean grew up in Saskatchewan and served with the Air Force during the Second World War, which was when she met MacLean. The two were married in 1952. Gwen later had a career as the dean of women at the Olds Alberta Agricultural College and as head dietitian at Bell Telephone in Montreal.

“While their life in politics often took them away from home, the couple remained deeply rooted in their love for rural P.E.I. and were fierce protectors of the land and natural beauty of our province,” King said in a statement.
