Fifty years ago Tuesday, Reginald Riddell, a paratrooper with the Royal Canadian Regiment in London, was one of 22 paratroopers blown off course during a training exercise at the Canadian military base in Petawawa and was heading into the frigid waters of the Ottawa River.
