I have no faith in our politicians respecting veterans in this country. Especially during this time before an election. Politicians will promise the world to get votes. I'm going to hold back on being optimistic from promises from any party, we've all been down this road one too many times.
Not a lot to choose from in this election even outside the veterans department.
Not impressed.

Canada's Veterans Ombudsman - Posted June 19, 2019
Canada's Veterans Ombudsman had the opportunity to meet with the new members of the Veterans Ombudsman Advisory Council (VOAC) in Edmonton last month. The Council consists of military and RCMP Veterans’ representatives, as well as professional advisors in fields of relevance. VOAC assists in promoting the well-being of all Veterans by identifying emerging issues within the Veterans community and by providing advice to the Ombudsman on how best to approach those issues.

How much is this Advisory Council going to cost Canadian tax payers???
Here is the deal, the most important issue facing Medically Released/Disabled Veterans is financial lifelong security. Without this everything else becomes a deflection, and a false perception of policy for benefits either in the form of recommendations, or legislation. What is happening here is the full range of benefits legislated regardless of they're merits deflects away from the most important issue of lifelong tax free financial security. This is what has been going on since 2006. This council along with the Ombudsman will make recommendations on policy/benefits, and legislation that is irrelevant to the core issue of lifelong security. Lifelong security will of course be a part of the discussion but nowhere near the lifelong security of the pension act. In other words the less important issues will override the core issue of lifelong security. So my question is this...Does the cost of paying for all of this council, and the fact of knowing it will or may not make a difference in the already failed benefits that are of little value compared to pre 2006, not to mention the fact of the false perception given to Veterans in creating this council, make any sense??? This might help with regular release Veterans, but like the Ministers advisory council past, disabled Veterans don't get anything in the way of moving the needle back to fairness. It is simply a creation to give the perception it is going to make a difference with disabled Veterans. We all know this to be false, we know the file is being run by the top bureaucrat of Veterans Affairs, and no Ministry council or Ombudsman council will succeed in moving the needle for disabled Veterans on the core issue of lifelong security as it was pre 2006. I posted to the Ombudsman the other day asking him to give me a dollar figure of what is spent on disabled Veterans, and what is spent on regular released Veterans. I asked him to look into it, and of course these questions cannot be answered. They don't want to answer them because you would find that the majority or at least a large chunk of the funds are going towards regular released Veterans. This of course makes the top bureaucrat, and the government look like they are spending a lot on disabled Veterans when they announce they're spending.
So in closing I would say that the initiative is there but the past has given us all a clear understanding of just how ineffective the summits, Ministry advisory council, and other events that allow people outside the file to provide input for the file are a waste of time, and feed the governments PR system. This Ombudsman council in my view will be no different.

Canada's Veterans Ombudsman - June 20, 2019
Good health is a foundation for overall well-being. That is why Canada's Veterans Ombudsman will closely monitor government’s progress on the eight unmet Health Care recommendations highlighted in our 2019 Report Card. We believe meeting these will have a positive impact for Veterans and their families.

Working together, we’ll ensure our RCMP officers have the support they need in their post-service lives.
Thank you to Commissioner Lucki and Chief Superintendent Ebert for a productive discussion today.
