We’ve adapted Treatment Benefits in light of COVID 19. We’re waiving certain prescription requirements, extending coverage for telehealth/virtual options, providing updates on provincial and territorial healthcare services, and covering personal protective equipment (PPE) for health appointments. Re: (VAC) COVID-19 INFO
So glad to see that volunteer organizations are getting these monies during this evil pandemic.
But it seems everyone from VAC to every Veteran Organization seemed to have forgotten the real volunteers that are literally hanging on by their fingers. But as always happens, in Canada, these volunteers are always forgotten and left behind to fend for themselves against disease, finding food, shelter, safety....veterans!
YES those volunteers. Canadian citizens that volunteered to put the uniform on to protect our country.
Now if you are a member of one of these veteran organizations that received money from VAC and you are mad at what I just wrote and demand an apology don't bother.
Over the last 10 months I have only seen 1 veteran organization stand up for veterans during this pandemic. The National Council of Veteran Associations. This is the only group with the courage to tell Ottawa that they are ignoring veterans who are dieing in the streets because the application backlog is out of control.
Also only 1 Legion branch has opened their doors. But not for shelter for homeless veterans. They opened their doors for extra hospital beds for the impending holiday surge of covid patients.
So that Legion branch is doing something.
What about the rest of the Legion buildings that remained shuttered because they couldn't sell alcohol. Is there some sort of bylaw that the doors to a Legion can only be opened if the bar is open? How many veterans could be a little more safe right now if the Legion just opened their doors and gave them at the very minimum a warm, safe place to sleep for at least 1 night?
Being a volunteer veteran organizations was not meant to create a social drinking club. You are a volunteer veteran organization so get off your money whining ass and help the original volunteers that aspired you to be a volunteer.
Right now ask yourself, (if you are a member of one of these veteran organizations receiving "donations" from VAC) is my veterans organization doing enough to help veterans in need? About 98% of those who ask themselves this question is going to hear..."not enough".

Re: (VAC) COVID-19 INFO
Here I see they are bragging on funds allocated from the 20mil to the allocated groups for COVID-19. Today it's Legion day I guess.... https://www.miragenews.com/veterans-affairs-canada-welcomes-distribution-of-funding-to-royal-canadian-legion-branches/
Is this some sort of statement by our government that these groups are actually working on behalf of the government for disabled Veterans? Could it be a simple case of throwing money at certain groups to feed the governments 'Veterans' PR machine?
If the government cannot put someone in the Veterans portfolio visa be "Minister'' who would actually do something that progresses our file, without listening, and acting upon what the deputy minister says? How do we ever expect to put the disabled Veterans at ease with our government?
How much of this 14mil given to the Legions are going into the pockets of disabled Veterans? We don't need the Legion operating under the umbrella of a government funded system for disabled Veterans in this Country!!! Same goes for all other groups getting these funds...If you want to volunteer?? Volunteer!! No one is twisting any ones arm to do this volunteering!! Our government is suppose look after our disabled Veterans in this Country!!! Not Vets CANADA OR the Legion or any other organization that needs funding. If your taken money, your not volunteering when it comes to Veterans in my book!! If your looking for homeless Veterans and need funds to do this, your not volunteering!! Another thing is the Walk for Veterans. The walk for Veterans should be for awareness only, not to solicit funds!!
As it stands today, we have my vac account which covers you, the Veteran from A to Z. We have case managers, we have forums such as this one, and others, all free of charge. If you cannot help and or assist a Veteran without having to ask OR receive funds, then your not really putting your heart into the cause!!
I was walking back or holding back commenting on this whole Veterans file as it has become clear that the system that is in place today, does not come close to fairing with the old pension act. It's obvious that the government is not going to bring fairness back, and they are using every tactic at their disposal to try and calm the waters with our file, at the same time causing people outside their circle to forget about the pension act. PR is a staple for our government today, and moving forward. This 20mil is just that...a PR move to give the impression they care, and are moving on our file!!
You would never see me accept money from anyone, including the government to help a fellow Veteran!!!

Do you need to travel any distance to get the #COVID19 vaccine? Veterans receiving healthcare services under our Treatment Benefits program may have their travel costs paid for to get vaccinated. Learn more http://ow.ly/yTZr50Dho2a.
