Re: Royal Canadian Legion - Topics & Posted Articles
Does anyone on this Veterans chat forum have ANY respect or believe in this pathetic social club?
We are 6 months into a global pandemic and what have we heard from this wannabe Veteran Organization?
We need Federal financial assistance to keep the bars open.
Without Federal financial assistance Remembrance Day might not happen.
They kicked a WWII veteran out of a branch in British Columbia because he supposedly misappropriated funds (hard to make a decision when the Legion will not tell the veteran what he did)
What the veteran community has NOT heard from this self-proclaimed leader of Veteran Organizations?
That 50,000 veterans have applications being ignored by VAC.
What is Canada's plans to help homeless veterans.
Has any Legion branch in Canada opened it's doors to house homeless vets during this pandemic?
If any Veteran on this forum is a member of the Legion are you embarrassed yet? Is this the organization you want to support? Are you now realizing it's only about money to this civilian social drinking club NOT helping your brothers and sisters?
Most importantly are you going to continue being the "token veteran" for your Legion branch?

The Legion is really just a social club. The RCMP continued with the pension act because at the time were being represented by the SRR (Staff Relations Representative)
The SRR program were able to lobby politicians successfully to keep the RCMP out of the New Veterans Charter.
The Legion did the opposite and voted for the NVC. Right there tells you the commitment the legion has towards it's modern Veterans.
We all remember Ron Clarke the Legion member who ran the ABC in 2015 for the re-opening of the offices...Well those offices have been re-opened so ask yourself this? What benefits came from this? Nothing for modern Veterans but a sense of accomplishment for the Legion!
As it goes today, advocacy or advocating for Veterans is not something that we can do solo, as a team or an organization. This includes the Legion. The backlogs have nothing to do with the Legion, but has everything to do with the government, in particular the deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs. I'll say it again, the Equitas suit has paved the way for our government, and future governments to do whatever they want with respect to Veterans. Ref: Nothing or no legal binding written law that states the government has to do anything. So now we are all put into this position of being at the mercy of our government to do the right thing. So gone are the days of advocating for a purpose, now we can just advocate to blow off steam!
Like it or not, the government in particular the deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs has beat us all, in every single corner of our fight to better the system.
The Legion is in a similar position except for pension act Veterans, which will eventually fade away, as I would imagine the Legion fading away also.
