Veterans served—and sacrificed—in the war in Afghanistan. The fall of Panjwaii has been difficult for many.
Resources are available to support you and your family. If you are experiencing distress, call the VAC Assistance Service at 1-800-268-7709 to speak to a mental health professional—at any time and no cost to you.
Veterans Affairs has NEVER created a dedicated mental health line only for veterans. For example the number above is for Telehealth Ontario.
VAC ALWAYS claims any emergency phone numbers as THEIRS. When in reality they only 'piggy back' on any mental crisis hotline who have absolutely NO IDEA how to help military veterans with PTSD. They just are not trained to help veterans.
But then what do veterans expect from VAC? A department created to HELP veterans. A department that dumps veterans with PTSD on provincial healthcare systems but refuses to share the medical history of the veteran with said provincial healthcare systems.
I'M NOT SAYING DO NOT CALL THESE NUMBERS.
I'M SAYING IF YOU CALL MAKE SURE YOU IDENTIFY YOURSELF AS A VETERAN.

A strong support system is an important way to help you take care of your mental health.
During an overseas deployment, Captain (Ret’d) Hélène Le Scelleur lost two comrades in her command. Shortly after she returned to Canada, she began experiencing symptoms of PTSD. Feelings of guilt led her on a dark path, but family and a return to studies helped her regain control of her life.
