Significantly more Canadians are calling toll-free lines at this time as we all work to limit the spread of COVID-19. While our VAC lines (EN: 1-866-522-2122, FR: 1-866-522-2022, TTY: 1-833-921-0071) are fully operational, the high volume of calls on Canada’s toll-free lines has put a strain on the telephone networks across the country. This could mean that you may not connect with an agent on your first try even if VAC has agents available.

This situation is unfortunately beyond our control. We apologize for any inconvenience and encourage you to keep trying. You may want to use My VAC Account secure messaging as an alternative.

To get through this together, we must all stay apart. #PhysicalDistancing means you can still connect with loved ones, but do it virtually. #StayHomeSaveLives. Canada.ca/coronavirus #COVID19 #FlattenTheCurve

Due to COVID-19, there has been an increase in scams and phishing attacks about COVID-19 benefits.

As the Government of Canada introduces new supports for Canadians who are facing hardship during this time, we remind you to be vigilant when receiving phone calls, emails and text messages that refer to these new benefits.

The best place to find information on Canada’s Economic Response plan is at

The best way to defend yourself against cyber-attacks is with information. If you can recognize the signs of a phishing campaign, you’ll be better equipped to protect your personal information from cyber scammers.

Please visit Get Cyber Safe for details on signs of a phishing campaign, and how to stay safe.

Some of you have suggested automatic approvals on disability claims. Although we do not use automatic approvals, we are encouraging decision makers to work more efficiently, using available evidence to reach the fastest decision possible. #COVID19

During the COVID-19 outbreak, providers may be offering alternate options, such as telehealth supports, for physiotherapy or other treatments. Always check with your health provider to see what treatment options are available to you and what may be covered. If you need assistance in finding local supports, please call us at 1-866-522-2122 or secure message us on Notices - Page 4 916227195 My VAC Account.

Important benefits and services for Veterans are not interrupted due to COVID-19. When it comes to cannabis for medical purposes, requests are still being processed and options exist if your medical authorization has—or will be—expiring. For more information, visit http://ow.ly/J3z850zFgoZ

Are you or do you know a current or former CAF member, DND employee or Staff of the Non-Public Funds who was directly affected by sexual harassment, sexual assault or discrimination based on sex, gender, gender identity or sexual orientation in the workplace? Those directly affected may be eligible to submit a claim for financial compensation, as well as participate in a restorative engagement program. The claims period has now started. National AccessAbility Week is 31 May to 6 June, a time to recognize how important accessibility and inclusion is across the country. Canada’s Veterans with disabilities have bravely served our country and continue to offer so much to Canadians.

If you have accessibility needs, learn more about our programs and services by calling 1-866-522-2122, messaging us on My VAC Account or visiting http://ow.ly/XnBA50zTU5G.

During this time, it is natural to be worried and concerned. The VAC Assistance Service provides mental health support to you and your family, 24/7, 365 days a year, at no cost and you do not have to be receiving benefits to access this service.
If you need mental health support during this time, please call the VAC Assistance Service at 1-800-268-7708
