A Veterans Journey

Bombardier (Retired) Adam Jones expected to be in the Canadian Armed Forces for at least 25 years. Unfortunately, injuries in 2013 and 2014 brought Adam’s military career to an abrupt end.“My biggest psychological obstacle, with injury and transition, was that loss of identity as a soldier…Rather than measuring up to who I had been, it was, Who can I be now?”

Honourary Lieutenant Colonel Lee-Anne Quinn served 22 years with the CAF as an Air Medical Evacuation Nurse. During her service, Lee-Anne witnessed many tragedies that stayed with her long after she released. It took her years to be able to speak openly about her tours.

Theresa “Terri” Lynn Orser served in the CAF for 27 years and was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder during her service.
While at one time Teri believed her diagnosis was a weakness, she doesn’t anymore.
She’s now dedicated to helping Veterans improve their lives, and encourages people to seek out the resources available to them:

Master Corporal (Ret’d) Marc Bergeron served in the CAF for 18 and a half years as a photographer and videographer.
During his service, Bergeron developed PTSD that went undiagnosed for years. Although it once was associated to his pain, photography now plays a key role in his recovery.
If you need mental health support, please call the VAC Assistance Service at 1-800-268-7708 – available 24/7 at no cost.

Emilie Létourneau struggled for a long time to identify as a Veteran: “To me, a Veteran was someone who fought in World War II and was now older and had a lot of medals. It's the people that you would see on camera at Remembrance Day.”
Now, she realizes those are misconceptions.
“I was ready to give my life for Canada, and I think that gives me the right to call myself a Veteran.”
