Motorcycle enthusiasts join Royal Canadian Legion National Memorial Ride to remember our Fallen
OTTAWA, June 4, 2018 /CNW/ - Close to 150 motorcycles and over 200 riders took part in The Royal Canadian Legion's 2018 National Memorial Ride at the National Military Cemetery at Beechwood in Ottawa this year.
Riders gathered at the Canadian War Museum and traveled a short route to the cemetery where a special service was held to remember Canada's Fallen.
"These riders, including members of the Legion Riders, care deeply about all our fallen," says David Flannigan, Dominion President. "The National Military Cemetery is a sacred and inspiring place, to think of all these men and women who have served their country on our behalf. We must always remember what that means in our day-to-day lives."
Wreaths were placed at the base of the monument at the National Military Cemetery and participants took a solemn walk through gravestones to visit both friends who have passed and others who lost their lives while on duty, those whose death was related to service, or those who served honourably and chose to rest with their comrades.
The National Memorial Ride is held annually on the first Sunday in June as a way for motorcycle enthusiasts and supporters across Canada to join a procession and participate in a Service of Remembrance.
Many of the riders themselves are military veterans.
